Sonja with daughter & granddaughter

“My difficult birth” and ‘after-birth’ of our first daughter, Sonja.”

A true life story, by Werner Schmidlin

The end of Karola’s pregnancy drew nearer, and the baby was expected sometime in August of 1953. We decided that Karola would have the baby at home as, by not going to the hospital, we would get enough money back from the health insurance to buy a pram. Weeks before the event, I made a baby’s cot out of recycled timber taken from old bee hives, beekeeping being my hobby in those days. It was a painstakingly tedious job to take the hives apart and scrape the sticky timber to remove the resin-like compound that bees secrete in order to give the hive a protective inner coating and to close up cracks. (Perhaps the forerunner of today’s No More Gaps.)

by Kyria Abrahams

The author tells her own story of a girl brought up in a fast growing religion within a decade when the movement was at its height of proliferation.

With her family devout and an inherent, ingrained, strong undertone of Semitic influence, she is driven from infancy into a ‘better world’, promising in essence ‘the truth’ to all life’s many ills.

Instead , the punishing regimes inflicted on her from this newly acquired religion shared by her family, cast a long shadow of over her hope to be free to make her own choices as she grows up. She is thrown into very different world, completely alien to other kids her age. That world, is one of repression, and the warders of that world mean to break her will. It’s a tale of cruel demands and their hunger for her unflinching obedience.

Some say that blogging is just like the 20th century’s project on Mass Observation.

Diet Fiber. Ref: ourohio.org

Bodybuilders have known for years about the direct connection between fiber and fat loss. However, until recently, it has been one of the few well kept secrets of those who intend to build muscle or trim body fat. Now, reports are coming out showing this correlation as well as the drop in occurrence of chronic degenerative diseases.

Fiber is defined as the cell walls of vegetables and fruits that are indigestible. These cell walls are only found in plants, so you cannot get fiber by just eating meat. There are actually two kinds of it; you have the insoluble fiber, which doesn’t dissolve in water, and the soluble fiber, which can dissolve in water. Both types of fiber, though, are needed by the body. If you can increase your intake of fiber, you can reduce your calories, since plants have very low calories.
